Tips to treat pimples and acne

Pimples and acne are generally caused when your skin’s oil glands are overactive and pores are inflamed. Some types of skin bacteria make pimples acne worse. Pimples and acne can occur anywhere on the skin, but they mostly occur on the face. Because pimples and acne are generally triggered by androgen hormones and, in some cases, genetics are also responsible for pimples and acne. There are many beauty products which claim to wave off your pimples and acne but nothing works as there is no sure permanent treatment for this. But natural remedies can reduce the severity and you can get rid of pimples, acne and their marks. So here are some tips to treat pimples and acne.

TIPS TO TREAT PIMPLES AND ACNE:

1. KEEP YOUR FACE CLEAN:

Always try to keep your face clean. As to avoid pimples and acne, it’s important to clean off excess oil, dirt, and sweat that clogs up into your pores daily. Washing your face more than twice a day can  make pimples and acne worse. Don’t wash your face with cleansers that are harsh on skin and makes your skin dry. Instead use a mild alcohol free cleanser.

To clean your face:

  • Wet your face with warm water and not hot water.
  • Apply a mild cleanser using your fingers in a gentle circular motion and don’t use a washcloth to clean your face.
  • Rinse your face thoroughly and then gently dry your face.

2. USE A MOISTURIZER:

Using a right type of gentle moisturizer helps keep your skin stay hydrated. But there are many moisturizers which contain oil, synthetic fragrance, or other harsh ingredients that may irritate skin and cause pimples and acne. To help prevent pimples and acne, use fragrance free, noncomedogenic moisturizers after washing your face or whenever your skin feels dry.

3. KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED:

If you are staying dehydrated, then your body may signal your oil glands to produce more oil which causes pimples and acne. Dehydration also makes your skin a dull in appearance and also promotes inflammation and redness. To keep your body well-hydrated, drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. Drink more after exercising, if you’re pregnant or lactating, or you spend time in a hot, humid environment then prefer to drink more water to stay hydrated.

4. AVOID MAKEUP:

It’s tempting to use makeup to cover up your pimples and acne. However, doing so clogs your pores and trigger outbreaks. When you wear makeup, then avoid greasy, heavy foundation that are mostly harsh in skin and use products that are noncomedogenic, sheer, and fragrance-free. Greasy or oily shampoos, body washes, shaving creams, and other hair styling products may all cause pimples and acne. To help prevent outbreaks, choose oil-free, noncomedogenic products.

5. AVOID SUN EXPOSURE:

Taking on  some rays may dry out pimples for a short term, but it can pose a major problem in the long run. Frequent sun exposure dehydrates you skin, which causes it to produce more oil and block pores over the time. So it’s important to wear a mild sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer. However, many sunscreens are there which are oily. For both sun and pimple and acne protection, always apply a noncomedogenic, oil free matte sunscreen.

6. NEVER POKE PIMPLES AND ACNE:

It’s often tempting to pop out that white head that appears on your face to look pimple free, but don’t ever pop out a pimple or poke an acne as it can cause an explosion within you pimple or acne which further leads to causing of more pimples and acne. Popping pimples or poking acne causes bleeding, scarring, and more infection. It clogs up your pores making your pimple or acne problems worse.

7. USE TEA TREE OIL:

Tea tree oil is an age old natural remedy for pimples and acne. To use tea tree oil for treating pimples and acne, apply 3-4 drops of the oil to the effected area. You can also add a few drops of the oil to your daily face cleanser or moisturizer or even your night cream. Before using an undiluted tea tree oil on your face, do a patch test to see whether it suits or irritates your skin. Apply a few drops of the oil behind your ear or to your forearm and let it be there and wait several hours. If an irritation occurs, then dilute the oil with a 50-50 ratio before applying on face.

8. USE FRENCH GREEN CLAY:

French green clay is a natural absorbent, mineral-rich clay with healing abilities due to its antibacterial properties. French green clay has many antibacterial properties which helps remove impurities, reduce inflammation, and also absorbs excess oil from the skin that leads to pimples and acne. French green clay is also available in a powder form. You can apply it on face by mixing it with water to make a face mask. You can also add other skin-relieving ingredients such as yogurt or honey to make the mask.

9. APPLY APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:

Apple cider vinegar also called as ACV is made from fermented apple cider, or the unfiltered juice from pressed apples. ACV is popularly known for its ability to fight many types of bacteria and viruses because of its anti inflammatory properties. Apple cider vinegar also has several other types of organic acids that are known to kill bacteria causing pimples and acne. ACV has succinic acid which is known to reduce inflammation caused pimples and acnes. ACV has lactic acid which improves the appearance of pimples and acne scars. Also apple cider vinegar absorbs excess oil from the skin which is the main cause of pimples and acne.

How to use it:

  • Mix 1 part of apple cider vinegar and 3 parts of water (make sure to use more water for sensitive skin).
  • After cleansing, gently apply the mixture on the skin using a cotton swab.
  • Let it sit for 5–15 seconds then rinse with water and gently dry it.
  • Repeat this process 1–2 times each day as per requirement for your skin

TIP: Never apply apple cider vinegar directly to your skin as it can cause burns and irritation, so it is better to use it in small amounts and diluted form always.

10. USE CINNAMON HONEY FACE MASK:

Both honey and cinnamon have rich antioxidant properties. Applying antioxidants to your skin is very effective in reducing pimples and acne. These are two natural pimples and acne medications for the skin as they have antibacterial properties.

The antioxidant properties found in honey or cinnamon helps treat pimples and acne naturally. Honey and cinnamon also helps in fighting bacteria and reduce inflammation which are two major factors that trigger pimples and acne.

How to Make the Honey and Cinnamon Mask

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder together to make a thick paste.
  • After cleansing your face, apply the mask to your face evenly and leave it on for 10–15 minutes.
  • Rinse off the mask completely and gently dry your face.
