Tips to get rid of periods pain and weakness

Menstrual cycle is basically the time period from the first day of a women’s period to the day before the next period. During this period, a number of natural processes occur in a women’s body like fluctuations in hormonal levels, change in energy levels, mood swings, breast tenderness, muscle cramps, body pain and many other changes. The length of menstrual cycle differs from women to women but on an average, the menstrual cycle is for about 28 days that’s on an average, women have their periods in every 28 days which lasts for about 4 to 8 days. The maximum length of menstrual cycle possible is 35 days.

CAUSE OF PERIODS PAIN:

Menstrual cramps and pain occur due to the contraction of muscles in the uterus during the shedding of the uterus lining. When the uterus contracts, it presses against the blood vessels which causes the squeezing of the blood vessels which cuts off the oxygen supply. That’s why periods causes pain and cramping. During  your periods, the pain receptors in the body are more active which increases the contractions in the uterus. Due to the contractions, shedding and more pain, it can cause nausea, diarrhoea and headaches.

MOOD SWINGS AND BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES:

Due to the hormonal imbalances in the body during periods, it leads to mood swings and behavioural changes.

  • Women tend to feel more irritated, anxious, depressed and upset during their periods

1. TAKING MEDICATIONS:

Taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which are the primary over the counter form of medication to relieve periods pain and cramps and also helps in reducing heavy bleeding during periods. NSAIDs have ibuprofen and naproxen which helps in reducing the production of prostaglandin which are responsible for causing periods pain and crams. So taking NSAIDs can help relieve pain and cramps during periods.

2. APPLYING HEAT PAD:

Applying hot water bag or heat pad on your abdomen and lower back during your menstrual periods help relieve pain and cramps. If you don’t have heat pad or hot water bag then you can go for a warm bath or use a hot towel. Applying heat on the abdomen and lower back during your periods relieves the uterus contractions and blood vessels which improves smooth blood flow which helps in reducing periods pain, cramps and weakness.

3. ESSENTIAL OILS MESSAGE:

Massage therapy with essential oils for 15to20 minutes helps in relieving menstrual pain and cramps. Massage therapy during menstruation includes rubbing and pressing specific points and massaging softly around the lower abdomen area, side, and back area. Massaging with essential oils in the aromatherapy style gives additional benefits. The best way to massage is to mix few drops of any essential oils of your choice with a carrier oil and massaging the oil on specific point on the abdomen, side and back area by pressing and rubbing softly. Drinking more water helps in relieving bloating and retention. Make a habit of drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water daily especially during your menstrual cycle. It you find if different to drink plain water then add some mint or lemon but stay away from salt during periods as it increases fluids retention and bloating. Also keep yourself off from drinking alcohol during periods as it promotes dehydration which increases muscle cramps. Encourage to drink more water and keep yourself hydrated to fill up the lost fluids in your body. This will help in relieving periods pain and cramps and will also help in removing weakness caused during menstruation.

7. GO FOR CHAMOMILE TEA:

Sipping some green tea during your menstruation cycle helps in reducing periods cramps and pain. As chamomile tea is loaded with anti inflammatory properties which helps in resisting prostaglandins. These hormones promotes uterus contractions thus causing pain and cramps during menstruation. So always drink some chamomile tea to reduce prostaglandins levels. Thus it will help in reducing periods pain and cramps

8. EAT A HEALTHY DIET:

Women often crave for spicy, fatty sugary or salty foods during their periods but these foods are not good for your health during your periods as such foods can increase bloating, pain and cramps. But eating a healthy balanced diet with less salt helps in removing the weakness caused during the periods. Foods with anti-inflammatory properties such as  cherries, blueberries, squash, tomatoes, and bell peppers are good for relieving pain and cramps and removing weakness caused due to menstruation. Also add fishes with high omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, as they are good in reducing pain, cramps and weakness
