Anxiety and depression are just diseases like any other disease. But there’s a taboo that anxiety and depression shouldn’t be told or discussed which is why in most cases it remains untreated.

In today’s busy and competitive world where stress has become a part of our life but we must understand that taking excessive stress is not normal and in most of the cases stress is the main reason behind anxiety and depression. Almost 10 million people suffer from anxiety and depression every year which is a worrisome population.

We cannot escape stress but what we can do is to avoid taking stress in every other situation. We need to understand that depression and anxiety not only effects the person who is suffering from it but the people around him also suffer from it. It not only effects your mental peace but also makes your life unhappy and unhealthy. So today I am going to share some tips to deal with anxiety and depression to lead a healthy happy stress free life.

TIPS TO DEAL WITH ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION:

1. TAKE DEEP BREATHS:

Negative thoughts take root in your minds which make you impatient and restless. So to calm your anxiety and depression, take deep breaths for 4 counts and breathing out for 4 counts without controlling your breath for 5 minutes. Focus on your breath and forget everything else in your surroundings. It will help you calm your mind which is always very busy and stressed. Avoid distracting you mind by other thoughts which makes your mind busy. Repeat this as many times as possible until your mind peace settles on the breath. This will help you give an instant mental peace and will help you de stress yourself whenever you feel hectic and stressed out.

 

2. MANAGE YOUR TRIGGERS:

You can recognize triggers on your own or with the help of a therapist. Sometimes drinks like caffeine, drinking alcohol, or smoking can trigger your mood and you can feel anxious and depressed. Sometimes any kind of stress can trigger you. When you get to identify your trigger, then you should limit your exposure to that situation if possible. But if you can’t limit your exposure to any situation like if stress is due to a hectic work environment that you cannot change or avoid then try to use other techniques to help overcoming your triggers.

3. USE LAVENDER OIL:

Lavender oil has many healing properties due to which it is used as a natural remedy to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and other nervous conditions . There are many ways to use lavender to relieve stress, anxiety and depression like:

  • Use lavender essential oil in your bath water to a peaceful bath. Use lavender leaves infused water to relieve painful joints and muscles.
  • Help you fall asleep quick when you add a few drops of essential oil on a tissue paper and place under your pillow while sleeping.
  • Another way to use lavender oil is by adding few drops in an oil diffuser to which helps in relieving insomnia. The sweet and light fragrance of the lavender oil helps you to fall asleep and also improves your sleep quality.
  • The essential oil also helps in treating headaches. For this, apply few drops of lavender oil on a cotton swab or on your fingertips and massage slowly onto your temples. The fragrance of the oil will help you relax and also helps relieve headaches.
  • Inhaling lavender oil can also help relieve stress and anxiety. It also relieves body aches and pain.

4. MEDITATE:

Meditation is the best way to combat anxiety and depression. Meditation promotes mental health and peace and also helps reduce stress. Starting your day with meditation for 10-20 mins gives you positivity and mental peace. Meditation can help you combat negative thoughts and also relieves stress, anxiety and depression. Meditation also encourages mindfulness.

5. PRACTICE SELF CARE:

Self care is the way to pamper yourself. Getting a massage or a spa, a mani-pedi, or a haircut. Spending time with your family and friends and making time for your hobbies are also part of self care. Taking care of yourself is an essential step for managing stress, anxiety and depression. Self care promotes mental relaxation which promotes stress reduction and hence relieves anxiety and depression.

6. GO TO SLEEP EARLY:

Sleep deprivation is the major cause of reduced brain functioning which increases stress and anxiety hence leading to depression. A good quality night sleep not only improves your physical health but also promotes mental well-being and health and help you to manage anxiety better.
